Utica, New York (April 2026) – The Center for Family Life and Recovery (CFLR) is collaborating once again with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Oneida County Opioid Task Force, Oneida County Health Department, and the Utica Police Department to host its Spring Take Back Day this upcoming Saturday. This community initiative offers residents a safe, convenient way to “take back” or dispose of unused or expired prescription medications, including sharps and pet medications. Free HOPE bags filled with helpful resources will also be available while supplies last.
This drive-through event allows participants to remain in their vehicles while safely discarding medications, making proper disposal quick and accessible for everyone. As part of CFLR’s Oneida County Prevention Services program, Take Back Day plays an important role in reducing the availability of unused medications and lowering the risk of misuse and accidental overdose in our community. CFLR staff will also be on site providing Narcan training and distributing Deterra drug deactivation bags.
CFLR’s CEO, Cassandra Sheets, shares, “At CFLR, we believe small actions create real change. Medication Take Back Day is one simple, meaningful way we can all be part of the solution.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), a significant portion of opioid misuse is linked to prescription medications, underscoring the importance of proper disposal. CFLR’s Take Back events continue to help remove potentially harmful substances from homes and keep the community safer.
