Recovery & Peer Support — FAQ
Peer support connects individuals with trained Peer Recovery Specialists who have lived experience with substance use or mental health recovery. They offer guidance, encouragement, and understanding from someone who has been through a similar journey.
No. You do not need to be in treatment to work with a Peer Recovery Specialist. We support individuals in early recovery, long-term recovery, or anyone exploring recovery options.
No. All peer support services—including coaching, groups, outreach, events, and Narcan training—are free of charge.
The Recovery & Peer Support program is available to individuals 17 years and older living in Herkimer or Oneida County.
(Erin’s Light outreach may support additional age ranges depending on need.)
Your first meeting is a conversation focused on your goals, needs, and what support feels right for you. Together, you’ll outline next steps, identify resources, and create a plan centered around your recovery journey.
Yes. CFLR provides free Narcan training for individuals, families, businesses, and community groups. Narcan kits are also available.
Groups vary by location but may include peer-led support groups, recovery check-ins, topic-based groups, community connections, and MRT (Moral Reconation Therapy) groups.
MRT is a structured, evidence-based program that helps individuals build decision-making skills, increase accountability, and strengthen their recovery foundation.
Yes. CFLR offers Peer Foundational Training for individuals interested in becoming credentialed peer professionals.
